“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). The Hebrew word for “be still” means to let go — to unclench the fists. In a city that never stops, stillness is not found; it is chosen.
The Agpeya gives us seven appointments of stillness a day. Even keeping one of them — the midnight psalms before bed, or the Prime prayer with morning coffee — re-anchors the whole day in God. Stillness is not the absence of noise but the presence of attention.
“In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
Try this today: before you reach for the phone, reach for one psalm. Let the first word of the day be His.
