Repentance & Confession

Article

F Fr. Kyrillos Mansour 4 July 2026

Repentance is not self-hatred; it is homesickness. The prodigal son “came to himself” in the far country and remembered whose son he was — and while he was still a long way off, the Father ran to meet him.

Confession is where that embrace happens. We do not confess to inform God — He knows — but to be healed. The priest is a witness and a physician's hand; the medicine is the blood of Christ. No sin carried into the light survives there.

“A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.”
— Psalm 51:17

If it has been a long time, do not be afraid. Speak to one of the fathers after any liturgy — the door is always open, and the Father is already running.
